On my design wall

I finished last week’s scrappy improv quilt.  I’m planning to enter this one in the QuiltCon modern quilt show.

Well, ‘finished’ except for the sleeve and label, so it’s now sitting on the pile with several other quilts that also need sleeves and/or labels.  I find it so hard to take the time to do those last steps, when another new quilt is calling to me.

Now I’m working on this modern quilt, which I started at a recent all-day retreat organized by Krista of Poppyprint for members of my guild, the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild,   At the retreat I pieced the off-center on-point square.  Now I’m auditioning fabrics for the corners . . . decisions, decisions . . .

I’m linking up with these blogs for WiP Wednesday.  Click on the buttons below to see all the people participating, and check out their projects.

  1. I like the quilting you did on the improv quilt Terry. It really brings out the design nicely.

  2. Just love the straight line quilting you did on the scrappy quilt from last week!

I like the darker green as the first fabric around the off-centre, on-point square. And the rainbow effect of your improv blocks is great!

Shena, that’s what I was thinking too. But since I posted these photos this morning, I’ve tried another 3 or 4 combinations for the corner units, and the dark green isn’t even in it at all now.

I prefer the fabrics on the right, if that helps – the one’s on the left make your eye stop and start wheras the ones on the right are a smooth, circular transition. And I like your scrappy quilt!

  5. Sheila says:

Great improv quilt , there seems to be a movement for modern quilting , such interesting pieces .

  6. I liked the darker green of these two selections best, but I can’t wait to see how you’ve decided to do it up!

Really impressive improv quilt! Good luck with the fabric auditioning, and if ever you find a motivator for those sleeves and labels please let me know.

  8. Jerimi says:

Oh, I LOVE improv work! Your straight-line stitching is fantastic, too.
