On my design wall

During this past week, I finished the mixed media piece, with silk leaves.

I love the gorgeous batik fabric and the vibrant autumn shades of the silk leaves.  I quilted the background with vertical lines, then tacked the silk leaves in place, then free-motion quilted along the vein lines.

I’m still waiting for my coordinating Kona solids to arrive in the mail, so I can get started on the Kona Modern Quilts challenge – the finished quilt is due at our guild meeting next month!

While I’m waiting, though, I’ve started working on an art quilt.  For the past couple of months I’ve been focusing mostly on modern quilts, so it will be good to get back to an art quilt.

This will be a big project, so will take several weeks to complete.  I’ll take some breaks and work on other smaller projects during the construction of the tree quilt, so I’m posting about it in a separate series of posts – here’s the first one.

I’m linking up with these blogs for WiP Wednesday.  Click on the buttons below to see all the people participating and check out their projects.
