New portrait quilt – 2016.09.17

Last week, I saw that the deadline had been extended for the Quilting Arts ‘Who Do You Love?’ reader challenge.  Even though I have a couple of other projects on the go, I decided to set them aside for a few days, and create a quilt for the challenge.

I have a great photo of my husband, that I have been meaning to turn into an art quilt portrait.  It was taken on a sailing vacation, and has wonderful side-lighting.   After doing some digital editing and manipulation of the image, I asked my husband what color he would like to be – blue it is!   You will notice that the photo is somewhat pixelated, but I think that adds interest to the finished quilt.

I printed the photo on fabric, then fused on the sunglasses and stitched them.  I drew in the details – facial features and hair – with a blue crayon pencil.  Then I thread-sketched the details with navy thread.  The letters are fused and outlined with blue pencil crayon.

The title of the quilt is ‘U R my Sunshine’ and the finished size is 10″ x 10″ (as required by the challenge rules).

I’m linking up with Nina-Marie’s ‘Off the Wall Friday‘, where you’ll find many other creative and inspirational projects.
