New architectural quilt – 2016.10.14

Have you heard about the Art with Fabric blog hop organized and hosted by Alida of Tweety Loves Quilting?

The concept is for each participant to create a quilt or fabric project inspired by a “conventional” (i.e. non-textile) piece of art – such as a painting, a drawing, sculpture, architecture, or even a book, song or poetry.  Each participant will post their artistic fabric creations between October 10 and 16, 2016.  The complete schedule is on Alida’s blog.

There have been some amazing quilted projects posted, and there will be more tomorrow.  You can find links to all of the participants’ posts on Ailda’s blog.  I encourage you to check them all out.

Yesterday was my turn.  You can read all about my newest architectural quilt here – the art installation that inspired me, and how I designed and constructed my quilt.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I haven’t come up with a title yet.  The working title is WOW, but I’m thinking of words like: angles, perspective, diagonal, rust.  I’d love any suggestions for a title for this art quilt.

Update July 2017:  I have decided on a title – ‘Dramatically Diagonal’

  1. The movement you have achieved with a static sculpture and bridge is captivating. This is a piece I stay riveted to – examining lines, palette, contrast, perspective – there is always more to see.

I think WOW works quite well. This is a dynamic quilt. Great contrast of warm/cool colors. I like the fact it comes right at me & off the ‘page’. I like that GG bridge is recognizable but a background component,

    Really love it!

Great piece, Terry. I am pretty hopeless when it comes to titles. The only thing I can come up with due to what seems like the size of this sculpture is “Urban Cathedral.”

  5. Andree says:

Hi Terry, it’s a really great piece. I like the differences between the sculpture and the background. The lightness of the bridge is a great contrast to the sculpture.
