About The Artist

My earliest creative memory is from kindergarten, making a mosaic from seeds and beans. This was the beginning of a life-long quest to find the perfect medium to express myself. Over the years, I’ve dabbled in many creative activities such as beading, drawing, painting, knitting and sewing. Although I enjoyed all of these, none held my interest for long. Then in 1998, a friend invited me to join her at a one-day quilting course. Finally, I had found an artistic medium that fascinated and inspired me! I discovered the work of other art quilters and started designing my own quilts. The design and construction of fabric-based art has become my passion.

My style is contemporary, and I create both art quilts and abstract/modern quilts. I use a variety of techniques – machine-piecing, fusible appliqué, thread-sketching and free-motion-quilting are among those I employ most frequently.

The design of a piece always evolves during the creative process, and the final quilt is often quite different from my original concept.

My quilts have been published in well known magazines, and juried into many national and international exhibits and shows. I’m pleased to say that I have won awards in both the artistic and modern categories.

I find inspiration all around me – the colors in a garden or landscape, the shape of a building, the design of a wrought-iron gate – any of these could stir my creative impulse. I try to make notes or take pictures whenever I see something that inspires me.

I love sharing the tips and techniques that I have developed, discovered and/or refined during the years I’ve been quilting, both on my blog and through workshops.

My goal is to continue to evolve as an artist, exploring new subject matter and techniques in my art quilts.

I live and create art quilts in the beautiful city of Vancouver, BC.

Hi Terry, I was at the La Conner quilt festival and was thrilled to see your 4 quilts on display. I’ve admired your quilts on your website for several months and was wondering if you would consider coming to one of our TAGOR meetings to do a trunk show. (Textile artists guild of Richmond). Our guild is in its 38th year and we have approx. 60 members. We generally have about 35 members at our meetings and we meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Our meetings start at 7 PM and the guest speaker is the first item on the agenda with approx. an hour for the guest presentation. We offer an honorarium of $200 to our guest speakers. I’m looking forward to hearing from you. You can email me or phone me at 604-271-0946.
