\"DSCN1198\"<\/a>I definitely bit off more than I could chew with machine piecing the half-hexagon quilt<\/a>!\u00a0 The piecing started off fine when I was doing the corner with mostly solid full hexagons.\u00a0 But when I got to joining the pieced hexagons, I just couldn’t get the seams to line up.\u00a0 I think it was a combination of the extra seams in the blocks and the small size of the blocks.\u00a0\u00a0 After several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to change my approach.\u00a0 The point was to use the fabrics and shapes to create the optical illusion, not to drive myself crazy.\u00a0 So I decided to scrap the piecing idea, and fuse them instead.\u00a0 I applied fusible web to the back of each pieced block, trimmed the seam allowances off, and fused them to a black background.\u00a0 Mission accomplished!\u00a0 Now I’ll do some zigzag stitching around the edges and some quilting.<\/p>\n

\"DSCN1205\"<\/a>I also made some blocks for the Alberta Flood Relief project<\/a> being organized by\u00a0Cheryl Arkison<\/a>.\u00a0 Cheryl is coming to Vancouver this week to do a trunk show and two workshops, so the VMQG is going to collect blocks<\/a> and give them the Cheryl. \u00a0 These are addictive – and don’t seem make much of a dent in my scrap bags –\u00a0 so I may need to make some more later.<\/p>\n
