href=\"http:\/\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/2013\/08\/10\/wip-organization-update-2013-08-10\/\">re-organizing my studio<\/a> recently, I said that I was planning to make a portable ironing mat for the top of my rolling, folding table. \u00a0 The table measures 12 x 36 inches when folded &#8211; almost the same size as the straight part of my ironing board.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s on casters, so it\u2019s easy to move around the room.\u00a0 Plus, it&#8217;s so much more attractive than an ironing board!<\/p>\n<p>I got that project completed this week, and I&#8217;m very happy with how it turned out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSCN1341.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" it.<\/p>\n<p>I considered using wood for the base, but I wanted it to be light and very portable, so I used cardboard.\u00a0 I cut some flaps from a large cardboard box, using duct tape to attach pieces end to end, and then to tape two layers together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSCN13931.jpg\"><img cardboard base with a layer of polyester craft batting, then a layer of flannel, then the top layer of coated ironing board fabric.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure I could have used an old towel, or cut <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Quilt-Studio.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1414\" alt=\"Quilt Studio\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Quilt-Studio.jpg?resize=287%2C361\" width=\"287\" height=\"361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Quilt-Studio.jpg?resize=239%2C300&amp;ssl=1 239w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Quilt-Studio.jpg?resize=816%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 816w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Quilt-Studio.jpg?w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Quilt-Studio.jpg?w=1920 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/><\/a>up an old ironing board cover, or purchased padded ironing board fabric &#8211; but I happened to have the batting and flannel on hand.\u00a0 I ordered the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joann.com\/ironing-board-cover-silver\/prd10219\/\">coated fabric<\/a> from Joann.com.\u00a0 I wrapped the three layers around to the back and secured it all with duct tape.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to make sure it didn&#8217;t slide around on the table, so I duct-taped a layer of rubber shelf liner to the back.\u00a0 I also added a strip of elastic to each end, to slip around each end of the table top.\u00a0 I attached the elastic strips with a staple gun and then more duct tape &#8211; this is the only part I&#8217;m not sure about &#8211; time will tell if the staples in the cardboard will pull out.\u00a0 If they do, I&#8217;ll find another way to anchor the elastic.<\/p>\n<p>I used my new ironing board to press the creases out of six quilts, and it worked
