I’m working on a new portrait quilt. Tom and Kalina are getting married later in July, and I’m making a quilt portrait for them.\u00a0 The quilt will be based on one of their engagement photos.\u00a0 Kalina said she liked the idea of surrealistic colors, so we talked about what their favorite (and least favorite) colors are. Here are some of the colors I’m considering for the quilt.\u00a0 With surrealistic colors, it’s very important to ensure the values are correct, and it’s difficult (at least I find it is) to judge values when looking at colors.\u00a0 So after arranging the fabric swatches by value as best I can, I take a photo and convert it to black & white, to confirm the fabrics are correctly sorted by value.<\/p>\n

Then, I selected fabrics for Kalina.\u00a0 (I’m just going to show the portrait in black & white for now.\u00a0 Kalina knows which photo I’m using, but the actually colors I’ve selected will be a surprise.\u00a0 I’ll post a color version of the finished quilt after the wedding.)\u00a0 Here is what it looks like right now, with Kalina composed in fabric, and the photo of Tom.\u00a0 I’m thinking the lightest fabric I used on Kalina’s face might be too light – any thoughts?\u00a0 I’ll contemplate that while I select fabrics for Tom.<\/p>\n
