2015.01.10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first quilt of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/2015\/01\/07\/my-word-for-2015-is-explore-2015-01-07\/\" target=\"_blank\">new tree series<\/a> is finished.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally, the theme for the first challenge of season 6 season at <a href=\"http:\/\/persimondreams.blogspot.ca\/2015\/01\/treesseason-6-project-quilting.html\" target=\"_blank\">Project Quilting<\/a> is &#8211; Trees!\u00a0 So I&#8217;m entering this quilt in this week&#8217;s challenge.\u00a0 I&#8217;m creating in New Westminster, BC, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>I used a variety of black &amp; white fabrics for the background.\u00a0 I thought the dark fabric at the top looked like abstract leaves.\u00a0 Then when I was looking for a dark fabric for the bottom, I decided it also looked like roots &#8211; so I used it there too.\u00a0 I pieced the background, then layered it and quilted it with a loose grid pattern.\u00a0 The horizontal quilting lines are about 2 inches apart, and the vertical lines are 2.5 to 3 inches apart.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t worry about making them absolutely straight, in keeping with the abstract concept of the quilt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Background-quilted.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2510 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Background-quilted.jpg?resize=289%2C592\" alt=\"Background quilted\" width=\"289\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Background-quilted.jpg?resize=500%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Background-quilted.jpg?resize=146%2C300&amp;ssl=1 146w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Background-quilted.jpg?w=1827&amp;ssl=1 1827w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Background-quilted.jpg?w=1280 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Trees-pinned-in-place.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2509 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Trees-pinned-in-place.jpg?resize=292%2C592\" alt=\"Trees pinned in place\" width=\"292\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Trees-pinned-in-place.jpg?resize=505%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 505w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Trees-pinned-in-place.jpg?resize=148%2C300&amp;ssl=1 148w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Trees-pinned-in-place.jpg?w=1888&amp;ssl=1 1888w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Trees-pinned-in-place.jpg?w=1280 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I cut the tree shapes from freezer paper and pressed them to the back of the multicolored fabric.\u00a0 I cut the tree shapes with seam allowances, which I pressed to the back.\u00a0 I lined the tree shapes with a layer of very thin batting &#8211;
