{"id":2821,"date":"2015-07-08T18:22:43","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T01:22:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/?p=2821"},"modified":"2015-07-08T18:23:05","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T01:23:05","slug":"on-my-design-wall-2015-07-08","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/2015\/07\/08\/on-my-design-wall-2015-07-08\/","title":{"rendered":"On my design wall &#8211; 2015.07.08"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that all my immediate deadlines (to enter quilts in shows, and to send quilts to shows) have been dealt with, I can pick up where I left off on &#8216;Water&#8217;, the second in a series of collaborative quilts I&#8217;m making with my sister Anne.\u00a0 (You can see &#8216;Fire&#8217;, the first of the series <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/2015\/06\/21\/finishes-2015-06-21\/\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve decid<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/DSCN4803.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2671  alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/DSCN4803.jpg?resize=190%2C295\" alt=\"DSCN4803\" width=\"190\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/DSCN4803.jpg?resize=193%2C300&amp;ssl=1 193w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/DSCN4803.jpg?resize=659%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 659w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/DSCN4803.jpg?w=770&amp;ssl=1 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 190px) 100vw, 190px\" \/><\/a>ed to make &#8216;Water&#8217; the same size as &#8216;Fire&#8217; (which is actually 22 by 57 inches, despite what my sketch says).\u00a0 The color palette will be blue with bits of bright contrasting colors, and the design will be horizontal strips with curvy piecing, with a large contrasting vertical curve the length of the quilt.\u00a0 We\u2019re each going to work independently on the side sections, then when we get together again we\u2019ll arrange them on the design wall and decide what to do with the center section.<\/p>\n<p>I started with some curved piecing, mostly in various shades of blue but with some green and purple as well.\u00a0 That piece is currently 13 x 31 inches.\u00a0 I may add more to it, or start a separate piece with wider or skinnier curves.\u00a0 Until we get together, I don&#8217;t know for sure which of my pieces will make it into the final design &#8211; I expect that some of them will get chopped up.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted some other shapes that looked like water but weren&#8217;t curves.\u00a0 I remembered seeing some quilts which used diamonds for water, to great effect.\u00a0 One artist who does this is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jankrentz.com\/gallery-details.php?ID=2\" target=\"_blank\">Jan P.
