Another magazine challenge caught my eye recently – Machine Quilting Unlimited\u2019s<\/em> 10th<\/sup> Anniversary Challenge, 10 X 10<\/a>!\u00a0\u00a0 The challenge:\u00a0 “Create a quilt with 10\u201d x 10\u201d finished measurements, including the binding, that refers to the number 10 in some way. You could include 10 frogs, 10 circles, 10 log cabin squares, the number\u00a010\u00a0or the word\u00a0ten\u00a0\u2026 any reference to 10 will work!<\/em>”<\/p>\n

This quickly turned into a challenge for me to find how many ways I could represent the number 10 in a quilt.\u00a0 I had a lot of fun finding various ways to depict the number 10.\u00a0 First there were the obvious ones – ‘ten’, ’10’ and ‘X’ the Roman numeral for 10.\u00a0 Then I added the binary numeral ‘1010’ and the hexadecimal ‘A’.\u00a0 A selvedge with colorful dots numbered 1 through 10 and a strip of 10 butterflies joined the party.\u00a0 I quilted a 1″ grid, so there are 10 rows and 10 columns. \u00a0I used a neon-colored variegated rayon thread (10 is the atomic number of neon).\u00a0 By my count, that is 10 ways of illustrating the number 10!<\/p>\n

Here’s my entry.\u00a0 I’ll find out on October 24th if it’s selected as a finalist.
\nUPDATE:\u00a0 I’ve been notified that my quilt\u00a0has been selected as one of the top ten finalists!\u00a0 So now it’s off to the publisher for final judging.<\/p>\n
