This is some sort of record for me.<\/p>\n

I have a great-nephew who is getting close to 2 years old, and I’ve been promising a quilt since he was born.\u00a0 I had a few hours with no other commitments, so I thought I would get a start on his quilt.\u00a0 In less than a day, I had it completed!<\/p>\n

Okay, I didn’t really start from scratch.\u00a0 I won these blocks more than a year ago in a VMQG block lotto<\/a>.\u00a0 The\u00a0X Marks the Improv Tutorial<\/a> was written by Debbie of A Quilter\u2019s Table<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I sewed several blocks into 3 rows, sewed the 3 rows of blocks together, and the top was done!\u00a0 A quick trip to the local fabric store yielded a cute polka dot fleece in matching colors for the back.\u00a0 I wanted to wrap the fleece around to the front for the binding, so I did some internet research and found 2 helpful tutorials.<\/p>\n

As suggested by Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew<\/em>, in Binding a quilt with the quilt back<\/a>, I trimmed the batting to the same size as the quilt top – actually about 1\/4″ wider.\u00a0 I cut the fleece backing larger, so there was about 3 inches extra on each side.<\/p>\n

I quilted an off-center X across the whole quilt.\u00a0 Then in each quadrant, I quilted straight, non-parallel lines about 2-3 inches apart.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I trimmed the backing edges to about 2″ and folded it over to the front as binding.\u00a0 I used the mitering technique described in\u00a0faux blanket binding<\/a> by red flannel pantry<\/em>.\u00a0 I straight-stitched about 1\/4″ in from the raw edge of the binding, then zigzag stitched over the raw edge.<\/p>\n

It was finished in time to take it to the December meeting of VMQG, where some of the members remembered their blocks from the block lotto.\u00a0 Check out the comments!<\/p>\n

Today, I put it through the washer and dryer, and then mailed it off.\u00a0 Here’s a shot of the full quilt.<\/p>\n
