Anything from ancient Egyptian art, to Leonardo, from Picasso to Michelangelo, from Boccioni to Pythokritos.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;** THEME for this SIXTH edition of the hop** &#8211;&gt; My <strong>favorite color<\/strong> is&#8230;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Come and celebrate the love for one color, it can be your favorite color of all time, or just the color that you have been loving this month.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Fall 2018 blog hop runs from November 5th to 9th, with 3 or 4 artists blogging each day about their artwork and inspiration.\u00a0 Check Alida\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tweloquilting.blogspot.ca\/p\/art-with-fabric-blog-hop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Art with Fabric blog hop<\/a><\/strong> page for the complete schedule and links to all the participants\u2019 blogs.\u00a0 Alida also has links to all the art-inspired quilted pieces from previous blog hops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>+ + + + + + + + + + + +<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My art quilt is inspired by the work of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Piet_Mondrian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Piet Mondrian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piet Mondrian<\/strong> (1872 \u2013 1944) was a Dutch artist who is most famous for his contribution to abstract art through works in which he used only the straight lines, the three primary colors (red, blue and yellow), and the neutrals of black, white and gray. He coined the term neoplasticism for this style.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a typical example of his work, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiart.org\/en\/piet-mondrian\/composition-with-large-red-plane-yellow-black-gray-and-blue-1921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WikiArt.org<\/a>.\u00a0 <em>The composition is asymmetrical, as in all of his mature paintings, with one large dominant block of color, here red, balanced by distribution of the smaller blocks of yellow, blue gray, and white around it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiart.org\/en\/piet-mondrian\/composition-with-large-red-plane-yellow-black-gray-and-blue-1921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ms-zoom-cursor aligncenter\" title=\"Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Gray and Blue, 1921 - Piet Mondrian\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/uploads4.wikiart.org\/images\/piet-mondrian\/composition-with-large-red-plane-yellow-black-gray-and-blue-1921.jpg%21Large.jpg?resize=397%2C398&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Gray and Blue, 1921 - Piet Mondrian\" width=\"397\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I love the graphic look of Mondrian&#8217;s black grid lines, and the dramatic contrast of white, black and a limited palette of bright colors.<\/p>\n<p>However, I have realized that primary colors are not my favorites.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m more drawn to tertiary colors.\u00a0 My favorite color seems to change depending on what I&#8217;m working on &#8211; any bright color can make me happy.\u00a0 But if I had to pick one, it would be <strong>chartreuse.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4938\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/tertiarycolors.jpg?resize=248%2C302\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/tertiarycolors.jpg?w=329&amp;ssl=1 329w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/tertiarycolors.jpg?resize=247%2C300&amp;ssl=1 247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/> \u00a0\u00a0 <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4935 size-medium alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?resize=300%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?resize=768%2C770&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?resize=1021%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 1021w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?w=1632&amp;ssl=1 1632w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Chartreuse.jpg?w=1280 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail_default\">So for my piece, I\u2019ve used Mondrian\u2019s typical horizontal and vertical black lines \u2013 although I couldn\u2019t resist adding some circular lines!\u00a0 I have lots of white spaces, and a limited palette of tertiary colors, including several shades of chartreuse.<\/p>\n<p>I used the same techniques (freezer paper templates, overlapped seams, trimmed and covered with bias tape) as described in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terryaskeartquilts.com\/Studio\/2016\/12\/18\/circles-and-other-shapes-2016-12-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here it is pinned to my design wall.\u00a0 It&#8217;s quilted (with chartreuse thread), but not yet bound.\u00a0 I considered binding it with black, but I may add a thin white border instead &#8211;
